Semi-precious stone meanings

The meanings behind semi-precious stones

Over the last few years, semi-precious stones have become increasingly fashionable both to wear and to have as ornamental accessories around the home.  Did you know however that each stone also has a hidden meaning?  Birthstones also remain a popular choice when choosing jewellery and again each bring their own symbolism to the wearer.

Here are just a few of our favourites…

Turquoise is the birthstone for December and is a symbol of strength and protection, but it is also considered to be calming and to aid creativity.   Our December Turquoise Birthstone Sterling Silver Pendant (£50) has been expertly designed using a 10mm bezel set turquoise gemstone suspended off a diamond cut box chain with a lobster clasp and is hallmarked 925.  Matching earrings are also available.

Garnet, the birthstone for January is said to grant quick and safe returns, especially when it comes to long distance relationships.  Our January January Garnet and Pearl Sterling Silver Birthstone Pendant (£48) features a 10mm bezel set garnet gemstone and coordinates perfectly with our matching earrings.

Lapis Lazuli has always been associated with royalty, which is why we use the description, royal blue.  It was also precious to Ancient Egyptians who used it to make jewellery and burial masks as a means to provide protection in the afterlife.   Our Supreme Lapis Lazuli and CZ Solitaire Sterling Silver Pendant Necklace (£42) features a beautiful, generously sized Lapis Lazuli gemstone drop pendant and really celebrates the natural beauty of this stone.

Our Portamento Moonstone White Jade Beaded Necklace (£35) combines the two semi-precious stones, Moonstone and Jade.  In Hindu mythology, is was believed that Moonstones were solidified moonbeams and were thought to reveal your future if you placed one in your mouth during a full moon (please note we’re not encouraging you to do this!).  Jade is believed to signify purity and is said to protect and support heart energy.  Our necklace really allows these natural beads to shine – 8mm white jade are interspersed by 10mm moonstone with 10mm faceted ivory and white agate beads.  The necklace is then finished with kiln fired sterling silver ceramic accent beads. This really is a beautiful, tactile necklace for anyone who wants to invest in a semi-precious stone piece of jewellery.
