Demand for affordable costume jewellery soars by 85 per cent

The demand for inexpensive costume jewellery has soared by 85 per cent over the last year, according to research in India. Commerce body Assocham has reported a huge level of demand in lightweight earrings, bangles and necklaces, which could otherwise be classed as “imitation jewellery”. Contributing factors for this rise are thought to be the increasing price of gold along with a change in customer preference, which is encouraging many to opt for affordable yet stylish costume jewellery for use at special occasions. The value of silver has been tipped to skyrocket by 500 per cent over the next three years. A collection of jewellery discovered aboard the RMS Titanic is set to go on display for the first time. Fifteen items, including fashion rings, pendants, sapphires and pearls, will be shown to the public for the very first time in exhibitions across the United States.
